Information

Chris Ro is a graphic designer based in Seoul, South Korea.

ADearFriend is a graphic design studio.

Sometimes they make.

Sometimes they do work.

Sometimes both.

Chris Ro and ADearFriend work on projects spanning both the cultural and commercial sector. Originally educated at UC Berkeley and the Rhode Island School of Design, the thinking behind this studio connects a diverse range of concepts spanning architecture, graphic design, typography, photography and form making. Chris is continuously fascinated by the curious discussions and participation humans have with form. His recent research interests exist in the concept of ‘digital craftsmanship’ and in the interchange between the computer, hand and form. Chris has also been researching the concept of ‘flow’ originally coined and conceived by Mihály Csíkszentmihályi. This concept came about through a life long fascination for the carefree and jovial states of mind often encountered during making processes. Similarly, the ethos or spirit of Chris and ADearFriend might best be compressed in a quick read of The Urge to Make Things by Leo Lionni. Basically, Chris is happiest when making.

Chris currently teaches design, typography and form making at Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea.
